WashU IT is planning a variety of employee engagement opportunities for this fall and winter based on feedback staff shared through the preferred activities survey conducted in late summer.

Employees identified four areas they value most: communication and learning, social and team building, cross-functional collaboration, and wellness and giving back. Staff also expressed interest in activities that fit within the workday, combine charitable giving with social opportunities, bring back popular past events, and create more ways for employees to connect across teams.

In response to that feedback, WashU IT leadership and the Employee Engagement Committee are building on existing programs while introducing additional opportunities for employees to learn, connect, and give back.

Several university-wide initiatives are already underway or planned, including Eight Ways to Wellness, Walktober 2026, WashU Leadership Week, and WashU Serves. Managers are encouraging employees to explore these opportunities while recognizing the importance of keeping participation optional.

Within WashU IT, plans include reinvigorating the 100 Neediest Cases campaign and providing opportunities for voluntary participation in the university’s United Way Campaign. A Senior Leadership Team panel interview is also being organized, with more information to come.

Team leaders are also working with their teams to plan activities for the holiday season. These may include vendor-led training sessions, team gatherings, and optional charitable activities. Employees should hear more from their managers in the coming weeks as plans are finalized.

Whether you are interested in professional development, connecting with colleagues, supporting the community, or participating in wellness activities, there will be a variety of opportunities to consider. Employees are encouraged to participate in the activities that best fit their interests and schedules as plans come together over the next several months.
