Great business analysis starts with understanding stakeholder needs, asking the right questions, and translating ideas into outcomes. Whether someone is new to WashU IT, or supporting a new type of initiative, or looking for the right resource, knowing where to start can take time.

To make that easier, a new Business Analysis (BA) guide was recently launched. The guide is a SharePoint resource designed to help business analysts and others performing analysis work find practical tools, learn WashU-specific practices and apply a more consistent approach across WashU IT.

The BA Guide is designed to complement the Project Management (PM) guide by focusing on the analysis practices, deliverables and stakeholder conversations that help define the right solution. Together, the two guides provide a more connected approach to project delivery, with the PM Guide supporting how work is planned and managed, and the BA Guide supporting how needs are understood, documented and translated into outcomes.

Find the right BA resource faster

Whether someone is a business analyst, a project manager, a technical lead or a subject matter expert supporting a project, the BA Guide provides a central place to find resources that support effective analysis work.

Instead of searching across multiple locations, team members can quickly access templates, deliverables, and guidance for requirements gathering, stakeholder engagement, process analysis and solution evaluation. The goal is simple: spend less time looking for resources and more time using them to move the work forward.

Learn the WashU way

A common challenge for analysts is understanding how industry practices translate into the WashU IT environment.

The BA Guide helps bridge that gap by documenting WashU-specific business analysis practices and showing how analysis activities connect to project delivery processes, governance, stakeholders and ways of working.

This helps analysts onboard faster, work with greater confidence and create more consistent experiences for project teams and stakeholders.

Create consistency across WashU IT

Analysts across WashU IT support a wide range of teams, technologies and initiatives. Each project is different, but a shared foundation helps improve collaboration, communication and expectation-setting.

The BA Guide provides a standardized approach to business analysis across WashU IT by aligning common practices, terminology and deliverables. It is not intended to add unnecessary process; it is intended to give teams a practical framework they can adapt while still creating consistency for stakeholders and project teams.

This launch is part of a broader effort to strengthen business analysis and project delivery capabilities across WashU IT. Over time, the guide will continue to evolve alongside the Center of Excellence, Communities of Practice, training resources and professional development opportunities.

Explore the guide

Created by practitioners for practitioners, the BA Guide supports team members at every level, from those new to business analysis to experienced professionals looking for templates, examples and proven approaches.

Take a few minutes to explore the site, bookmark the resources you expect to use often, and share feedback so the guide can continue to improve based on what teams need most.

Great analysis does not start with a template. It starts with the knowledge, guidance and community needed to turn ideas into outcomes.
