It is a common challenge – timesheets are due, or a monthly status report needs updating, and valuable time is spent piecing together information, searching for project updates, updating slides or correcting extracted data. It is a familiar cycle that many would like to leave behind.
Feedback received regarding the heavy administrative overhead and complexities of the legacy Planview system has led to changes. To address these long-standing challenges, a project steering committee representing each core area of WashU IT came together to help pave a better way forward.
As part of the ongoing commitment to building a coordinated, robust and customer-centric IT ecosystem, WashU IT is launching ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM). This intentional transition reduces administrative burden, streamlines portfolio management processes and enables the organization to focus more time and energy on advancing the university’s missions of research, teaching and patient care.
Whether the daily routine centers on local task execution or broader project leadership, ServiceNow SPM replaces outdated, manual checkboxes with powerful features designed to make day-to-day functions smoother. The platform brings project health, team capacity and key performance insights together into interactive, at-a-glance dashboards with executive reporting that reduces the need to manually compile information across disconnected sources.
Ensuring that the user community feels supported and prepared is the highest priority, which is why a comprehensive, role-based training schedule will kick off in fall 2026. Exact dates will be announced in August. With a blend of interactive live webinars, on-demand training, quick guides, drop-in sessions and Teams channel support, this rollout ensures every team member has access to real-time troubleshooting and assistance.
