WashU IT leadership has announced updates to the department’s ongoing employee engagement efforts, highlighting the critical role of recent feedback in shaping future workplace initiatives.
Focus groups facilitated by third-party vendor Sparck reinforced key themes originally identified during the employee engagement survey held in the spring. These discussions provided deeper insights into how the department can address perceived areas for improvement. In response, leadership plans to focus on enhancing communication, improving organizational clarity, and collaborating with HR Partner Melissa Harting to provide career development resources.
The Employee Engagement Committee also collected additional crucial feedback from across WashU IT. To further inform the strategy, the committee recently closed a survey focusing on employee engagement preferences, receiving a total of 111 responses. Data from this survey will guide the evolving strategy, and some of the detailed findings will be shared during the August IT All Hands meeting.
WashU IT’s current efforts build on initiatives introduced following the 2023 employee engagement survey. Based on employee feedback, WashU IT launched several recognition programs, including the annual ImpacT Awards, which recognize employees who demonstrate exceptional customer service and a strong commitment to supporting their colleagues. The department also expanded employee recognition during monthly IT All Hands meetings to regularly celebrate new employees, promotions, and service milestones.
Moving forward, the Employee Engagement Committee will continue to collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team and the Senior Staff, utilizing the gathered data to formalize a strategy aimed at improving the overall employee experience. Leadership emphasizes that employee feedback will remain a key factor in shaping future initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall employee experience.
