On June 30, all users of the Research Infrastructure Services (RIS) environment were assigned two required Workday tasks.
What:
To ensure everyone using the RIS environment meets the National Institutes of Health (NIH) requirements for controlled-access data, all RIS users must complete:
1. RIS User Attestation
2. Insider Threat Awareness Training (approximately 10 minutes)
Why:
This establishes compliance with NIST 800-171 security controls. RIS is implementing these controls across its entire infrastructure to strengthen overall security and align with the federal funding agencies’ future directions.
Impact:
The RIS environment itself is not changing. There will be no other changes to how users work within RIS outside of completing this attestation, unless they interact with controlled-access data. Failure to complete these Workday tasks by Wednesday, September 30, 2026, will result in restriction or termination of access to RIS resources.
Timeline:
Tuesday, June 30, 2026 – Two Workday Assignments:
1. RIS User Attestation Document (Due Wednesday, September 30, 2026)
2. Insider Threat Awareness Training (Due Wednesday, September 30, 2026)
