The June WashU IT All Hands meeting featured an update on strategic university initiatives by Nichol Luoma, Executive Vice Chancellor for Enterprise Operations and Chief Operating Officer at Washington University in St. Louis, and details about the university’s response to the recent national Canvas cybersecurity breach delivered by Chief Information Security Officer Chris Shull.
In her remarks, Luoma recognized WashU IT’s presence in the St. Louis IT community for maintaining strong operational stability and collaboration while supporting core university priorities. She highlighted the internal strategic evolution toward true enterprise alignment, user-centered service delivery and disciplined resource investment to effectively manage growing operational demands and security risks.
The meeting drew more than 450 attendees and Luoma’s remarks sparked engagement, as nearly a dozen questions were gathered from the audience. Answers to questions from the meeting are available in the IT @ WashU Teams channel.
In his presentation, Shull referenced the strong coordinated response by WashU IT and distributed IT partners, and the university’s commitment to ongoing proactive training efforts designed to safeguard institutional data.
Jessie Minton, Vice Chancellor for Technology and Chief Information Officer, opened the meeting with some organizational updates, news on programs and projects, and the usual focus on employee milestones, such as new employees, work anniversaries and promotions.
As a reminder, there will be no All Hands meeting in July. The first meeting of the new fiscal year is scheduled for 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19. During the August session, the final fiscal year 2026 goals update will be shared, along with a formal introduction of the strategic goals for fiscal year 2027.
