WashU IT Governance welcomes new project ideas and follows a structured process to evaluate and implement them.

To submit a new project idea, start by completing and submitting the Project Idea Request form in ServiceNow. This will initiate the Demand Management workflow, which includes the following phases and steps:

  • Idea Phase – The goal is to capture the idea and validate with organizational leadership
    • IT reviews the idea and triages to the IT team(s)
    • Governance Groups identified
    • Requestor presents an SBAR to the designated Governance Group
    • Decision: Governance determines if the idea is promoted to the demand phase
  • Demand Phase – The goal is to understand, develop, and validate the solution
    • If promoted, IT recommends a solution and works with the Requestor to develop a Project Proposal
    • Requestor identifies funding source(s) and begins securing support
    • Governance reviews the Project Proposal
    • Decision: Governance determines if demand is promoted to a project and establishes prioritization
    • Agreement is secured from funding source(s)
  • Project Phase – The goal is to plan the work
    • The project is reviewed and scheduled
