The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) provides strategic leadership and direction for WashU IT. The OCIO works to develop a shared vision for technology programs, priorities and investments that advance Washington University’s mission, support institutional operations and position the university for success in an increasingly dynamic and competitive environment.
WashU IT is organized into several functional areas that collaborate to deliver secure, reliable and innovative technology services in support of the university’s teaching, research, patient care and administrative missions. The Office of the Chief Information Officer’s (OCIO) primary purpose is to develope a shared vision for IT Programs, priorities, and investments that advances the Washingtion University mission, supports operations, and enabled the university excel in its increasingly competitive landscape.

Data Management and Analytics (DATA@WashU)
Data is essential to facilitate a culture of data driven decisions within units and departments. Data at Washington University in St. Louis is governed by many policies, guidelines and leading practices. These curated data resources are designed to empower analysts, data scientists, API developers, and data governance communities at WashU to harness the power of data. Data at WashU is the go-to information hub for business users who wish to leverage the university’s data assets for analytics, governance and integration.

Enterprise Systems & Solutions (ESS)
Enterprise Systems & Solutions provides reliable and secure information technology services that enable process automation; the capture, protection and reporting of critical data; delivery and support of enterprise applications; and shared computing environments in support of the teaching, research and patient care missions of Washington University.

IT Administration
IT Administration provides oversight and leadership for financial planning. The department manages WashU IT’s programs and activities including capital funds, operational funds and service costing; organizational and human resources planning, strategy, development and operations; and facilities planning and management.

IT Service Management Office (SMO)
The IT Service Management Office (ITSMO) at WashU provides a strategic and customer-focused service delivery program across all WashU campuses. The Service Management program is a collaborative means of identifying, delivering, managing and supporting IT services and processes that are the building blocks of each service we deliver to students, faculty and staff throughout WashU. IT Service Management at WashU is built upon the foundations of the ITIL framework, and supports processes and service level metrics related to Incident, Knowledge, Change Management, and CMDB, including Asset and Configuration Management.

Portfolio and Project Management Office (PPMO)
The PPMO enables IT governance by providing portfolio management, IT capital planning, and unified methodologies, standards and metrics for cross-functional delivery of IT projects. For strategic initiatives, the office also provides skilled resources for program/project management, business analysis, change management, performance support, project communications and knowledge management.

Research Infrastructure Services (RIS)
The Research Infrastructure Services (RIS) organization provides core infrastructure and services to support the Institute for Informatics as well as common services needed across the university research community. Many in this organization came from the McDonnell Genome Institute.

Shared Infrastructure (SI)
Shared Infrastructure engineers and supports enterprise-class solutions to provide a reliable, secure and efficient infrastructure framework for the shared services environment, in support of the University’s academic, research and patient care missions.

End User Services (EUS)
End User Services manages desktop technologies and operations, the Service Desk and service management. The department provides trusted, reliable and high quality user support with a focus on simplifying the user environment and making systems easier to use while offering robust, scalable and secure services.

End User Experience (EUX)
At the center of the mission is our EUX team—a dedicated group of IT professionals focused on understanding and aligning WashU IT services with the needs of the university. EUX is committed to ensuring that the WashU community feels valued and supported in their IT interactions.
