The Software Asset Management (SAM) and Software Operations teams continue to strengthen software governance through enhanced security measures, streamlined renewal processes and improved license compliance.
Enhanced security arrives in January 2027
Beginning in January 2027, Nitro PDF and MATLAB will transition to Single Sign-On (SSO) using Active Directory security groups. This enhancement will strengthen user authentication, improve financial accountability and simplify software renewal and license management.
Fall software renewals underway
Annual software renewal activities are now in progress to help departments maintain uninterrupted access to essential applications while ensuring licenses align with current needs.
Current renewal schedule:
- Microsoft and SPSS: Renewal surveys are underway.
- Tableau: August 24–September 18.
- BioRender, Nitro PDF, and Parallels: Renewal surveys will launch in September.
Departments are encouraged to complete renewal surveys promptly to help ensure continued access to these applications.
Adobe license compliance reminder
As part of the recent Adobe renewal cycle, SAM and Software Operations partnered with departments across the University to address software licensing compliance and optimize license allocation.
A reminder: software licenses are typically assigned to individual users and should not be shared. License sharing can create compliance and audit risks for the university. By following software licensing requirements and requesting only the licenses needed, departments help maximize the value of the University’s software investments while maintaining compliance with publisher agreements.
